Angry Ashley

When I need to vent, it makes me feel better to write...so here goes it!

It has been extremely hard for me to find work with this new move. Apparently, when people get to Fort Campbell - they typically don't leave - thus making it harder to transition into a DOD job. I am employeed now, thank the Lord, but I'm making a third of what I made in Korea....yes, a THIRD! Anywho, I've been at my new job around three weeks. Everyone's nice, and it's a relatively stress free environment - which is great.

I needed to find a good sitter for my daughter which has been a grueling task. Last night, my sitter decided to text me that if I don't start paying her double, that I need to find someone new. Mind you, this is on a Monday night at 8:30....WHO DOES THAT?! I understand that for good childcare, you need to come out of pocket a lot. I want my daughter to be very well taken care of but seriously?! REALLY?!  So that left me in a fierce toboggle! I found someone new around 10:00, and I just feel like I'm letting my daughter down. She needs to develop a routine. She's at the age now where she's taking everything in. She learns so fast and mimics absolutely everyone. I really just want whats best for her! So take 3 Lex, we'll find someone good for you!

Black Friday Countdown

As Thanksgiving approaches, we all think about the most important shopping day of the year....(try to contain your excitement) - BLACK FRIDAY! I spend my days trying to find the best deals out there. Most of the popular stores have released their advertisements. I've checked almost all of them; just downloaded a Black Friday App for my Iphone - they really make apps for everything these days! None the less I've compiled a list of what I'm going for - mostly toys. I'm sharing a few with this post. As I find more, I'll be blogging them!

Toys R Us is opening up at 9:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day, which is AWESOME! I plan to be in line, ready to fight the crowds around 8:00, or maybe 7:30 - depends on what Donna Kay's in the mood for! Ha! I've found some good things for Lexi at Toys R Us, some of which include a Leapfrog Leapster 2 (Pink) for only $24.99 - they also have a big discount for all of the accompanying games. There's also this bouncing colors turtle ride along that's only $14.99 - mind you, this summer it was $80 - glad I didn't get it then! All of the Disney Princess dolls are also on sale for half off - can't beat that! And my favorite toy of the season......LET'S ROCK ELMO - They're selling a bundle for $50, which is awesome considering Elmo by himself right now averages at $50.

As far as things I like for myself, hello Old Navy! They are actually opening up during the day on Thanksgiving Day from 8am - 9pm. Then they're reopening up at midnight. Hurry up and get there before midnight because guess what?! - they're giving out wristbands to the first 100 customers (in line)to redeem Kodak camera bundles. I WANT ONE - they're actually giving away waterproof cameras and all types of coupons in the package. Now if you don't make it out in time, they're still lots of fun stuff on sale. They're having the CUTEST pea coats (for adults) for only $29. They're originally $80 so that's a great savings! Kids jeans are on sale for $10, and adults for $15. They also have scarves on sale for practically free!

If you're looking for some good electronics, head on over to BestBuy. They open at midnight, and have nice laptops on sale for $179. They also have blue ray players for $39. If you need a tv, then they're the best place to go as they have 42 inch televisions on sale for $199!

Walmart is opening its doors at 10 PM on Thanksgiving day, but won't allow you to get it's electronics deals until midnight. Some things that poke out to me at Wal Mart, are the X Box Kinect, and controller with a $50 gift card for only $199.99. They also have BlueRay's on special for $49.99. As far as stuff I actually want, they have a lot of their kitchen appliances marked down.  They have a double waffle iron for $2.84 and a Hamilton Beach 6 speed hand stand mixer for only $18.92. Walmart didn't go crazy posting any of their toy specials, so I feel a bit let down :/ None the less, they'll probably have tons of discounts when we hit the store on November 25th!

The AAFES PX has its catalog out, but I've heard it's better to just go in and fight the crowds. I know the ipads are going to be uber cheap there!

I'm always scouting out a good deal, so if I find more bargains - I'll share them! <3 Ashley

Confessions of a Military Spouse

Hi! My husband, daughter, and I are stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. I say that we are all stationed because, well, everytime he moves, Lexi and I accompany him (so we're included). Being here has been different from any of our other duty stations. Previously, we were at USAG - Yongsan, located in the heart of Seoul, South Korea. Prior to there, we were in good ole Fort Rucker, Alabama - detached about an hour north of there in Troy. Anyway, I like to refer to this as our first "real" duty station. Everyone is always so serious here - my guess it's because we're on the highest deployable post in the military. None the less, Fort Campbell is a good place. It's a nice area. We're only an hour out of Nashville - and boy does Nashville have a lot of fun stuff to do?! Being a country girl, I love Music City - so many attractions and SHOPPING!!! If you know me, I love to shop until I drop;  I have to carry a full time job to support my habits. Now, back to the seriousness of Fort Campbell, it's quite hard to get adjusted to it. Just today, I've heard of two more soldiers passing. My best friend, is an FRG point of contact - meaning she had to comfort those soldier's families. I couldn't do it! Today I realized the reality of what my husband signed up for. I'm not gonna lie, I fight back tears daily - just knowing that I could be one of those wives left widowed. Next year, I will have to carry on, trying not to thing about the dangers my husband faces. I don't know how generals' wives have put up with it for so long. Just thinking about the future cares the s#$% out of me. I know I'll have to paint on a happy face for everyone, especially my little Lexi-Lou. None the less, I really don't believe that spouses get due respect for enduring what they have to. Wives that have stuck by their husbands through multiple deployments should be honored. They stay back and hold down the homefront- acting as a single parent for many months, sometimes years at a time. Mind you, these aren't the women writing into Oprah or Ellen asking for freebies. These are the women sitting at the house, carrying on, just waiting on their loves to come back safe and sound!
